August 20th Blitz Tournament; GM Max Dlugy Goes Back To “School”!
GM Fishbein Catches Another Win!
Someone can go back to school to acquire knowledge that previously they skipped out on, or as is more appropriate in the case of GM Max Dlugy, it is to impart some knowledge to the next generation. So it was this past Sunday at our Glen Rock location when the formerly #1 rated blitz chess player in the world came in to participate in our “Back to School” blitz tournament.
GM Dlugy shared the honor with ICA’s resident blitz champion GM Alex Fishbein (check out his books on the Scotch Gambit, as well as the King and Pawn endings) who both tied for first place in the open section.
ICA coach, and fellow Frisch school alum (Jared Kushner graduate from there don’t ya know), Orren Ravid won the u1600 section with a perfect score of 7 out of 7 points. Jonathan Zeng took second with only a single loss to Orren, and Sophie Rasol took third losing out only to the top two finishers.
In the unrated section Sebastian Cubillas was the sole winner scoring 8.5 points out of a total ten rounds.
