Results From New Jersey State Championships;
Gilad Drillich Becomes THREE TIME STATE CHAMPION!
We would like to report on the results of our students at these past state championships. Though Gilad Drillich was our only first place winner, this was our hardest and most symbolic result since it allowed him to become a three time consecutive state champion (Gilad won for the 10th,the 11th, and now the 12th grade).
Kindergarten
Our only representative in the nine person group was Joshua Liberman who lost only to the top two finishers, got a bye, drew a game, and won one to get the fifth place trophy. It was a truly a multi-faceted performance for young Joshua.
First Grade
We had three players in the 25 player field with Anton Badushov doing the best in winning four games out of five (his only loss was to the first place winner) and finishing in second place. Other participants were Jane Stripunsky who won three games and took the eighth place trophy, and Tim Volvovskiy who got two-and-a-half points out of five to finish fourteenth.
Second Grade
Forty four kids played in the second grade section and our best results were Daniel Lifshitz, and Andrew Salnikov who both won four out of five and got the fifth, and sixth place trophies respectively. Jonathan Plavnik got eleventh place and a medal for three wins, while Suran Gao got nineteenth place and a medal for three wins as well.
Third Grade
Multiple time state champion Mathew Lerman was our best finisher for third grade winning four out of five games and finishing in fourth place. Grant Goldman won three-and-a-half and ended up in sixth place with a trophy for his efforts. Yastika Singh finished in forty-third place with two wins. Fifty eight players competed in the third grade section.
Fourth Grade
Kenneth Telebrico won four out of five games and finished in fifth place out of a total total thirty-five players. Mathew Teytel played as well winning two games and ending up in twentieth place.
Fifth Grade
Sophie Rasol, and Dennis Karpenko won three out of five games each and closed the day in fifteenth, and eighteenth places respectively. Forty-seven players competed in the fifth grade section.
Sixth Grade
Joshua Lerman finished in third place out of a total fifty players by winning four out of five games. Alan Salnikov finished in thirteenth place with three wins while Gabriel Lifshitz also won three out of five and ended up in nineteenth.
Seventh Grade
With twenty-three players competing Nikita Popov got four out of five points and ended up in fourth place.
Eighth Grade
Zachary Lyandres only lost to the first place winner and ended up in second place with three-and-a-half points. Twenty-four players competed in the eighth grade section.
Ninth Grade
We had seven players out of a total of thirty-four in the ninth grade section and our best result was Alessandro Demarchi-Blumstein who only lost to the first place winner, got four points total, and ended up in second place. Amey Pasarkar, and Siddharth Wagh both finished right below Alessandro with four points out of five in third, and fourth places respectively. Nicholas Cardenas got three-and-a-half points and finished in fifth. Connor Cabrera, Phillip Blumin, and Nastasia Klevak all won three games each and finished eleventh, twelfth, and fifteenth.
Tenth Grade
Eric Kong won four games and finished in fourth place out of a total twenty-four players. Timothy Hoang was fifth with three-and-a-half points.
Eleventh Grade
Alan Stolyarov ended up ninth overall out of a total twenty-three players by way of three games out of five won.
Twelfth Grade
Of course our big winner was Gilad Drillich who won all five games and finished in first place out of a total eighteen players. With the win Gilad became a three time state champion.
