2015 ICA Summer Camp Fair Lawn Week 5

Scholastic Chess Camp Week 5 Fair Lawn Report

During the fifth week of camp our new neighbors at the Fair Lawn location were the “GM Camp.” For this reason the “Master” and “Day” camp had to squeeze in so that their older colleagues could comfortably study and gain important knowledge from their very famous Grandmaster coaches like Artur Yusupov, Alex Chernin, and Alex Stripunsky.

In any case, GM camp or not, the week turned out quite productive.

Suran won section one of the classical tournaments brilliantly, scoring five out of five points.  The second section winner was Alex whose experience trumped that of the newcomers for the 2015 summer camp season.

Jessica was the fastest, and “bestest” master camp chess player since she won the blitz tournament.

The best in the chess groups were Aidan (Sergey’s group) and Alexandra (Tanya’s group).

Giana was the winner in the Problem solving competition, while the prize for homework was again left unclaimed due to a lack of interest from the campers.

The strongest athletes in week 5 were: Dennis (Sergey’s Group) and Katie (Tanya’s Group).

The Dodgeball Winners: Jessica (Girls) and Grant (Boys).

As has been the case for the last few years the “Pretty Pink Unicorns (Alexandra, Grant, Alex, and Suran)” were the winners in relay races.  Coincidentally “Pretty Pink Unicorns 2.0” took second place thereby proving the copy is never as good as the original.

The healthy lunch competition was won by Jessica, while the Art contest winner was Alex.

This week turned out to be a small calm before the storm of promised “bad weather” as well as the usual “August tsunami” of students signing up for the last few weeks of camp.

With that the midpoint of the Summer Camp season has come and gone. We are continuing our sunny adventure through the chess kingdom and hope you will continue, or join us for the remaining five weeks.
