2015 ICA Summer Camp Fair Lawn Week 6

Chess Camp Week 6 Fair Lawn Report

In order to meet the wishes of our students during week six we organized a more fluid schedule for those campers who were staying for the full day.  Since some of these students wanted to do more chess than Art, and their chess level allowed it, after three pm we let them participate in the activities of the Master Camp.  Of course it wasn’t easy for them to compete with the students of the higher group, but since “only the walking conquer the road” our campers were able to offer decent resistance to their older counterparts.  As an example, Katie won a blitz game against the Pan American Champion Aryeh Leib.  In any case this loss didn’t stop the young Aryeh Lieb from winning the overall blitz tournament.

Aryeh Lieb won the classical tournament in Section 1 (Ali came in 2nd), as well as Sergey’s “Problem-Solving” competition.

In the day camp the tournament was played in two sections and Katie won section two, while 2-3 places were shared by Aidan and Grant, while section three was won by both Jonathan, and Jane, with Michael S. Alex G, and Phillip all finishing jointly behind them.

The best in each study group were:

Best in Chess Groups:

Sergey’s Group – Michael A.

Tanya’s Group – Alan & Katie

Greg’s Group  - Philip

Genry’s Group – Alex G.

Asher’s Group – Jayin

As usual the “Survival in a Simul” was extremely fun and intense with the winners: Alex B (Open section), Phillip (U900), and Ricky (unrated).

The problem solving competition winners were:  Sara (Open), Michael S. (U900) and Alexandra (Unrated).

The fight for the Homework prize was only contested by the Rated section.  Both Sara, and Jane demonstrated a serious attitude in this competition, and in fact so much so that we couldn’t pick a winner and decided to award the prize to both for this nomination.

The strongest team in the Blitz and Bug House Tournament were the girlish team of “I Don’t Know” comprised of Katie, Sara, Jane, and Debra.

In the relay races the version of the Unicorns known as “The Better Pretty Pink…” was the overall winner.  The team, under the supervision of Genry, was comprised of Daniel Klevak, Alex B, Jane, Katie, and Ricky.

Best in Sports Groups:

Sergey’s – Daniel Khaitov.

Age 2002-2004 – Alexandra

Age 2005A – Alex G.

Age 2005B – Grant

Age 2007 – Jane

The strongest in Dodgeball were Grant for the boys, and Jane for the Girls.

Julia contributed greatly in the fight for the Girl’s Soccer Prize nomination and won that particular nomination. The winner for the boys in this event was Michael D.

The healthy Lunch prize was won by Ricky, while the best Effort prize went to Aidan, and the Art Contest prize to Jane.

Until next time over the next few weeks Day Campers.
