2015 ICA Summer Camp Teaneck Week 7

Scholastic Chess Camp Week 7 Teaneck Report:
Jakob’s Ladder “Mate”!

The story of the week was Jakob Landa who left his mark in four separate categories (his brother Ezra didn’t do too shabby either).

In the regular tournament Zachary Mankowitz our oldest school and most experienced camper won section one on a tie-break over newly USCF registered David Bolshov. David won against Zachary the day before to tie for the lead but on the last day Zachary showed experience still counts for something.   The section two winner was the above mentioned Jakob Landa, while the section three winner was Ezra Landa.

Unsurprisingly the best student in Ivette’s group was Jakob Landa, while the rest were David Bolshov in Libaski’s group, Daniel Paley in Orren’s group, and Jonathan Kaplan in Melanie’s group.

In the other chess categories, Jakob Landa got 89 moves total in the simul competition, while Ama Bonsu got the prize for the clearest, and neatest notation we have ever seen.  Andrew Volynsky was the winner in problem solving as he was one of the few to actually participate in this category, while Isiah Grant won the most games in the themed chess opening practice game contest.

Andrew Volynsky was the clear king of sports this week for exactly three reasons: Firstly, he won his sports group (Kento won in the oldest, Andrew’s was second, with David Bolshov winning in the third, and Nathan Neufeld in the youngest), second he caught a ball in his hat for dodgeball (the dodgeball hat trick gets four dodgeball points and makes kids bring their hat outside like their parents want), and third his “Eye Of The Tiger” finally dethroned the “Pretty Pink Unicorns in the Friday relay race event (Andrew the captain’s teammates were: Jacob V-his brother, Annabelle “Belka” V.-his most adorable youngest sister, and that wily veteran Jakob L.).

The other sports winner was Rafi Kaplan for soccer (as he was the only one to play).

The misc categories saw Gabbie Grant winning for Art (there were a few takers but Ivette thought Gabbie’s picture deserved the award), David Liu for effort (he did try in everything), Jacob Volynsky for the best text message in the text message contest (something about falling asleep and eating his pillow and some marshmellows), and finally Sharvanya Moola for beating everyone in the staring contest.

See everyone in week 8.
