2015 ICA Summer Camp Fair Lawn Week 8

Chess Camp Week 8 Fair Lawn Report

Once again week 8 proved to be very crowded which made it difficult to complete the richly planned schedule of events.  However, everything went off without a hitch and practically every prize category was accounted for in terms of a winner.

In section one the winner was Michael D. who improved significantly in the past few weeks and who last week took second place in the same tournament.  This time around he was the winner.  Furthermore, Michael clinched first in the last round, beating the tournament leader Dennis who ended up in second.

In section two the fight for first place also ended with a sharp battle.  In the end Jessica was able to defeat the tournament leader Alex B. and thus earned first place.  Alex B and Daniel split second.

The section three tournament didn’t have a battle as Michael S. confidently went the distance winning all his games.  The second place winner was George.

In section four there were no equals to the perfect score of Aaron.

For the first time in a long time the weather forced us to hold the Rainy Day Blitz tournament.

Again in section one Michael D. was close to earning first place, as in the classical tournament, winning against the leader in the final round.  However, this time around it was not enough and Grant was able to keep his position as leader despite the loss.  Michael D. was second.

In the other sections the winners were all able to demonstrate a perfect score.  Jessica won section two with Andrew and Michael S sharing second.  Section three was won by Alex G, and section 4 by Aaron.

Best in Chess Groups were:

Tanya’s Group – Malina

Libaski’s Group – Adam

Ethan’s Group – Michael S.

Genry’s Group – Samantha

Asher’s Group – Dylan

Many students were able to gain a prize in the “Survival in a Simul competition” with Alan, Grant, and Jessica winning for the open section, and Daniel for the u1000.

The winners for the Problem Solving prizes were: Michael D. (Open), Adam (U1000) and Aaron (Unrated).

The Homework winner was Albert and as usual there was a serious showdown in the open section while in the other sections the other students ignored the opportunity to gain a prize.

The prize for best chess notation was won by Katie.

The winners in the Team Championship were the team of “Get Rekt” (composed of Daniel, Ethan, Jonathan, and Aaron.)

In the other team event-the relay race-the strongest were the modified to the almost completely unknown Unicorns, or the “Best Pink Fluffy Sparkly Unicorns of Barbie World Rainbow Land” and included: Jane, Ben, Jonathan, and David R.

The sport group winners were:

Age 2002-2003 – Adam

Age 2004 – Dennis

Age 2005 – Jonathan

Age 2006 – David S.

Age 2007 – Andrew

Age 2008 – Evan

In the dodgeball there was finally a changing of the guard as Daniel won for the boys and Samantha for the girls. They were thus able to outplay the veterans Grant and Jane.

The soccer prize was only contested by the boys and the only winner was Alex B.

The healthy lunch competition was won by Avital, while the Swag Walker prize was won by Abigail.  Jayin was the winner for Best Effort, while the art contest winner was Albert.  The music award was won by the decorated pipe player of our camp Alex G.

Congratulations to everyone with the conclusion of week 8 and see everyone in weeks 9 and 10.
