Former World rated #3  GM Artur Yusupov To Give “Interactive”  Lecture on legendary World Champion Mikhail Tal November 22^nd at ICA Fair Lawn location from 3-5 pm!  Optional blitz tournament to follow!

Our very own ICA coach and former top 3 player in the world (Kasparov, and Karpov were 1, and 2 in the world respectively), Artur Yusupov will be giving an “interactive” lecture via Skype at our Fair Lawn location from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, November 22^nd.

While traditional lectures may, or may not feature a question and answer period at the end, an “Interactive” lecture will allow for questions to be asked during the lecture itself! Anybody from the audience can question a variation, or propose one and thereby pick the brain of one of the strongest chess players and coaches of the last few decades.

Artur has played (and on at least one occasion defeated!) every single world champion save for Bobby Fischer, from Spassky to Carlsen, and even went up against Karpov in the semi-finals of the candidates tournament to decide the challenger for world champion Garry Kasparov.  Aside from his playing career Artur is an accomplished coach, and author, and besides his work at our GM chess camp, also coaches the Swiss national junior team,  and even went so high as to second and prepare former world champion Vishi Anand in his 1995 world championship bid against still reigning champ Garry Kasparov.

The lecture will focus on the eighth world champion of chess, and arguably the greatest attacking player of all time in Mikhal Tal. At the young age of twenty three “The pirate magician from Riga” shocked the chess world in 1960 and defeated the long time World champion Mikhail Botvinnik, thereby becoming the youngest world champion of all time. 

Tal was most known for his uncompromising, sacrificial style of play which strived for the win in a complicated “dark forest” of a position that, while perhaps not sound, was so complex his opponent would get lost in the variations.

Artur played Tal in a number of blitz and classical games and so has firsthand experience about the mannerisms, and character of this monumental chess player.

The entry cost is thirty dollars per person and admission will be limited to twenty participants (No kids under 13 unless accompanied by an adult; or unless USCF rating higher than 1500. This is a serious event and we are looking to avoid any distractions).
