ICA Dr Ostfeld Winter Memorial Open Section: A Tale Of Two GMs…& Fred Wilson!

ICA Dr Ostfeld Winter Memorial Open section: A Tale of Two GMs…& Fred Wilson!

So the two GM’s part makes perfect sense given that both Mackenzie Molner, and Alexander Fishbein are “grandmasters” and are expected to dominate the field and play each other in the final round, but what about this Fred Wilson fellow?

Well you see last Sunday since it was daylight savings time it is very possible that Fred, given a habit of sleeping in late (an assumption of mine based on absolutely nothing) requested a half point bye for round one of the Ostfeld Memorial Open competition. With half a point in the bag Fred then proceeded to win the next three games, and given the tendency of GMs to draw their last round game against each other, seeing as Fishbein, and Molner were going up against one another in the final and decisive contest, Fred tied them for first place with three and a half points!

Each of the top three players received $200 for their performances.

Vedant Rautela won three games and got $80 for best results of a player rated under 2000, while Gregory Markzon got $60 for best results of a player over the age of 55.

Oleg Shevelenko, with his three point score got $80 for best results of a player rated under 2200.

Jason Lu got $60 for best results of a player under the age of 13 for his two-and-a-half point score.

Jayenth Mayur, and Dennis Li scored $40 for their two points each and best results of players rated under 1800, while Katherine Chin got $80 for best results of a player rated under 1600.

Thirty players competed in the Ostfeld Memorial Open competition this time around.
