Huge Turn Out for Ostfeld Memorial Winter Scholastic Competition On March 12th, 2017!

We had an almost alarmingly high number of players for the March 12th Scholastic version of the Ostfeld Memorial held in Bergen Academies High School in Hackensack, New Jersey. With two unrated sections, and three rated ones, with the highest open to adults plenty of kids had the opportunity to shine and show off their honed ninja like thinking abilities.

Section 1

Jody “Jon Bon Jovi”(as he was dressed for our New Year’s Day Blitz event) Chen was the only player to win all four games and the first place prize. Josh Liberman, and Thomas Isernhagen both got three-and-a-half to tie for joint second/third place.

Thirty-one kids competed in section 1.

Section 2

With forty-three competitors, Anthony Plavnik was the only winner with four out of four points.  Gregory Rubinshteyn, Hagop Makhoulian, Steven Pochatko, and Raunak Singh all scored three and a half points and tied for second-fifth place.

Section 3

With fifty-five competitors we had three perfect scores and thereby a joint tie for first-third place.  Ramanathan Ganesan, Taddeo Wang, and Vedanta Das all won every single one of their games to claim top honors.

Section 4

Timothy Xie, and Luke Blazejewski tied their individual third round game and won the other ones to split first/second place with three and a half points each. Yastika Sing, Benjamin Murkis, Michael Pylypovych, and Andrew Sung all tied for third-sixth with three points each.

Seventeen players competed in section four this time around.

Section 5

Tenafly’s own Ethan Xu was the sole first place winner with a perfect four point score. Mathew Teytel was second with three points, and Lily Del Pilar, Jonathan Plavnik, Bryan Ding, Nicholas Babukhadia, and Bryan Jiang all got two points and shared the third place honors.

Only ten players competed in section 5 this time around.

The next Ostfeld tournament is scheduled for May 7th!!!
