2017 St Patrick’s Day Blitz Tournament

St Patrick’s Day Blitz Tournament: Fishbein Threepeats but Stripunsky ties him for Top honors!  Demarchi-Blumstein, and Adepu win u1600 and unrated sections!

Open section

GM Alexander Fishbein dressed in a green shirt by accident to help ring in the post St Patrick’s day celebrations but ultimately it may (or may not) have helped him win the St Patrick’s day version of our blitz tourney yet again (he also won the New Year’s and Valentine’s day versions).  However, this time the green dressed GM wasn’t alone as our resident Master Class instructor GM Alex Stripunsky drew him at the top for first place honors.  Both GM’s got 10.5/11 points and drew their individual encounter.  Despite some inquiries about a grandmaster draw both winners took the game to the wire and despite GM Stripunsky winning a pawn, GM Fishbein sacked a piece for a perpetual check. Both winners got 112.50 in US currency for their efforts.

ICA coach Igor Yeliseyev finished in third place with 7.5/11 and won  $37.50.

Mitch Fishbein once again won the u1800 prize and $37.50 and was once again spanked by his dad in their individual blitz game in round 5.

Nicholas Cardenas finished out the prize categories by taking home $37.50 for the best results of a player rated under 2000.

Twelve players competed here.

U1600

Our resident junior coach Alessandro Demarchi-Blumstein won here with a perfect seven for seven score. The result netted him $150and clear first.

The second, and third place, winners were Alan Sourek, and Sean McLaughlin who both scored 5/7 points and took home $ 56 each.  Sean was especially festive, and dressed in all green which won him a bonus prize for best costume (According to his mom “with a name like McLaughlin there was no other choice.”) Seems the luck of the Irish won out in the end.

We also had plenty of other money winners for the u1400,u1200,u1000,u800,and u600 categories.

Twenty players competed here.

Unrated

With eight players competing Arnav Adepu was the sole winner with only a single loss to his name. Sebastian Cubillas, and Rohan Joshi shared second place with 7/9 points.  All got movie tickets for their great results.

Raunuk Singh also won a prize for best costume for dressing in all Green.
