2018 Chess Camp Teaneck Week 2

ICA Scholastic Chess Camp Teaneck Week 2 Report: Our first taste of Rain!

Every Summer there is always a couple of days that leave the coaches stranded inside with a bunch of screaming, angry kids.  The reason is more or less always the same and is always spelled R-A-I-N. The order of the day for said occasion is almost always a blitz tournament and as it happens that is what we did on Thursday.

Kento Numakura our longtime camper was able to defeat everyone in the higher group while Ezra Landa dealt with everyone in the lower group.

Our regular tournament winners were Leon Berenfeld in rated section one (only having one draw with Kento who drew both Leon and Kevin to finish half a point behind), Eric Meng in rated section two and Yaakov Mankowitz in the unrated section.

Our best students were Kento Numakura, and Raymond Wang in Slava’s group, Eric Meng in Ivette’s group, and Masha Furman in Gary’s group.

Kevin Wei was the winner in the simul on the strength of three wins out of four games (coach Ivette was once again undefeated though Josh Khodosh came within a few seconds ultimately like everyone else he was checkmated).

Christopher Jinn was our resident art winner for the week.

Outside when it didn’t rain Christian Lavrinovich won in the youngest group, Yaakov Mankowitz and Eric Meng in the second group, Joshua Khodosh in the 2007 group, and Kento Numakura in the oldest group.

Charles Jinn once again won for dodgeball, and again on the strength of a bunch of catches though this week he had to share dodgeball honors with Fort Lee school #4 native Gino Lee.

On Friday, the “Royal Hogs” (Charles, Davin, Kevin, and Eric) won the relay race events while “No Running, No Left Side” (Josh and Christian) came on strong in the last two rounds to win the blitz/bughouse event.
