2018 Chess Camp Glen Rock Week 3

2018 Chess Camp Glen Rock Week 3

ICA Chess Camp Glen Rock Week 3 – The week we ate ice cream

Week 3 turned out to be very exclusive and festive since Wednesday was 4th of July! We invented a new version of dodge ball in the category “Coaches vs. Kids” which was a hit with both children and coaches! Moreover, on a rainy Friday David R. initiated a Hogwarts House Cup to be played. The team Gryffindor (Valerie, Michael P. and Suvir) took the Cup!

But let’s not forget that our camp is primarily a chess camp even during Independence Day week! Our students demonstrated great achievements. This week our winners are Aaron (Section 1), Valerie (Section 2) and Suvir (Section 3). Great job, guys!

Michael P. (Tanya’s group), Lily (Sean’s group), Valerie (David’s group) and Eirica (Genry & Philip’s group) have become Best Students in Chess Groups of the Week 3.

Meanwhile, there was a hard fight not only for the title of Best Student, but also for Homework Winner Prize and Problem Solving Competition Prize (Open Section). Winners at these nominations have been determined at the last moment! Angelina became a Homework Winner, and Michael P. won a Problem Solving Prize (Open Section). Suvir has become strongest at Problem Solving in Unrated Section. Unfortunately, nobody agreed to fight for the title of Survival in a Simul Winner! So we saved some money on this usually very popular prize this time.

Finally, the last Prize of the week, Team Blitz and Bughouse Tournament, the most delicious and favorite of all our students, has gone to the team BOB (Lily & Jonathan Pe.)!

As was already mentioned above, the holiday week was a special one, and it had plenty of rainy weather. So at this time we skipped prizes in nominations Soccer and Sports Groups and were eating an ice-cream instead (both students and coaches!). However, the Dodge Ball, as everybody knows, will be held rain or shine! Ilya has become the strongest player among Boys, and Eirica and Valerie won among Girls! Valerie, who is already very experienced, took first place in the category Healthy Lunch Competition as well.  Emilien and Jonathan Pe. have become our Art Winners. Lily won an honorary award Most Organized Person (for responsible and helpful behavioral toward students and coaches).

So, this week was calm and cozy. We hope that students and coaches really enjoyed it! There are many more interesting summer days at the ICA day camp in Glen Rock!
