ICA Winter Chess Camp 2018 - Teaneck Day 4

A GIANT thank you to world champion Magnus Carlsen!!!!

For the first time in history a reigning world champion played a scholar’s mate in a serious game situation (e4, e5 Qh5!? Nc6, Bc4)
Magnus gained the upper hand in the position on the board in the picture but due to bad form didn’t cash in with the winning Ne8! And instead played f3? Going on to lose the game.

The students went over scholar’s mate today and as an added bonus analyzed the world champion’s freshly played game against Shamsiddin Vokhidov

It is awesome the world champion did this as the kids always argue this isn’t something any strong player does... well now we get to respond with “The World Champion did it!””

Hopefully Magnus can win one with a scholar’s mate next time and again

Thanks Champ!
