2019 Winter Camp Teaneck: Day 1 And 2

Winter Camp Teaneck: Day 1

We started Winter Camp in Teaneck today.  The kids seemed to enjoy socializing and playing chess, video games, and light nerves. Outside during Dodgeball Kenz Raza was the strongest scoring two catches and a cone strike plus three wins together with his team.

After lunch the kids played three tournament games, doing various Art with Aparna in between rounds. In the higher section Davin Shin won all three games to take first place, while in the lower section Kenz Raza and Alexander Choi tied for first place with two and a half wins each.

Winter Camp Teaneck: Day 2 Dragons, Holiday decorations, Spaceships, and Chess.

Day two of Camp was even more entertaining than day one. We had three tournament groups with the winners being Stanley Hyun in group 3, Leo Chon in group 2, and Davin Shin in group 1.

Davin’s tournament was the most interesting given last year in winter camp one of the lessons revolved around this 2018 game where world champion Magnus Carlsen tried for Scholar’s Mate against an international master https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1938193 ). While Magnus lost after overlooking a tactic which would have won, Davin remembered the lesson and won both games despite his opponents stopping the obvious threat on f7.

Another interesting moment was when Laila Turapov, finished her last tournament game with five minutes left in the day and still managed to complete an art assignment that required incorporating dragons, holiday decoration, spaceships, and chess.

Very impressive
