ICA SUMMER VIRTUAL MATH CLASSES

Welcome to ICA Virtual Summer Math Classes with ZoyaAllie, Roman, and Yevgeniy, where we are cultivating a learning environment for the curious mind. We diversified our Singapore math system curriculum for grades 3 & 4 (because this is where the foundation of algebra and geometry is built) to make it more inclusive for all backgrounds. We will offer 2 levels:

1. Primary Singapore math system comparable with the common core standards

2. Art of Problem-solving using Singapore Challenging word problems books.

Art of Problem Solving: Singapore Math System Curriculum

The Singapore Math system is a highly effective teaching approach that was originally developed for the Singapore public schools’ system and has since been adopted by numerous countries and programs across the globe. We have had huge success with the Singapore Math System curriculum because the method teaches students a deep mastery of the subject through carefully calculated foundational learning, where each grade level is a building block.

Unlike many models that stress rule memorization, the Singapore Math System relies heavily upon logical explanations and digging deep into roots of reason.

We will be using Primary Mathematics, the original curriculum that put Singapore at the top of international math tests. Primary Mathematics includes CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, number bonds, bar modeling, and a strong focus on mental math. It is a rigorous program that balances supervised learning and independent practice while encouraging communication.

At ICA we believe it is important to introduce students to a wide range of creative problems that will develop their logic and imagination and our aim is always to bedazzle young students with simply stated but challenging problems.

Art of Problem Solving: Beast Academy Curriculum

In our quest for finding the most optimal level of math curriculum, we are pleased to announce that this summer we are going to implement new books to our already challenging math curricula: Beast Academy.

Beast Academy materials cover the core fundamentals and then go well beyond these basics to present material at a deeper and more challenging level that help teach problem solving and logical thinking.

In this way rote learning is replaced by creative learning and we introduce students to a wide range of creative puzzles, beautiful and often unsolved Number Theory problems, and other exciting aspects of Mathematics. We think of our students as scholars who generate original thought and envision Mathematics as a science that never ceases to challenge and delight their inquisitive minds.

Art of Problem Solving: Pre-algebra Curriculum designed by Richard Rusczyk, David Patrick, Ravi Boppana

Pre-algebra prepares students for the rigors of algebra, and also teaches students problem-solving techniques to prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests. Topics covered in the curriculum include the properties of arithmetic, exponents, primes and divisors, fractions, equations and inequalities, decimals, ratios and proportions, unit conversions and rates, percent’s, square roots, basic geometry (angles, perimeter, area, triangles, and quadrilaterals), statistics, counting and probability, and more!

5th-6th Grade

Thursday (Zoya) - Assessment Required

Math Circle for Elementary School Students

Inspired by the mathematical books for children, ‘Math Circle by the Bay’ by Laura Givental, the class taught by Yevgeniy, is designed to introduce students to a wide range of creative problems that will develop their logic and imagination. By encouraging students to invent original approaches and arouse thought and prevent rote learning, children can dig deeper and to more advanced levels.

3rd-4th Grade

Monday (Yevgeniy)

Using the Singapore Math System Curriculum students will be exposed to number theory and solve simply stated but challenging problems. Creative contests and continental math league problems will engage students and prepare them for continuing the journey and excitement in math while viewing the subject as something full of adventures and magic.

4th-5th grade

Monday (Yevgeniy)

Rote learning will be replaced by creative learning and students will be introduced to a wide range of creative puzzles, beautiful and often unsolved Number Theory problems, and other exciting aspects of Mathematics. Students in Math Circle are scholars who generate original thought.  I also envision Mathematics as a science. While students are always encouraged to do well on standardized exams, we also want to develop their creative potential.  We introduce students to the history of mathematics. in hopes that they maintain a lifelong love of mathematics.

5th-6th Grade

Friday (Yevgeniy)

The ultimate goal of an educational process is, we think, to make students think about things. While Singapore Math will stretch the students' minds, and Number Theory will challenge them with unsolved mysteries, and creative contests and continental math league problems will make them face a wide range of topics associated with ACT and SAT exams, we also want to introduce the students to the history of mathematics in order to provide a historical context for some phenomena we will discuss in class.

At ICA we strive to encourage our students to explore and develop new ideas and problem-solving techniques.

Find out why so many parents praise our methods and so many kids are fully engaged in math with us! ICA takes great pride in parents consistently praising us for our individual and yet inclusive approach to math that keeps kids motivated, engaged, excited and confident.

Our classes are designed to shape and reshape the way your child thinks mathematically into more visible thinking and teach them to organize their thoughts in steps just like they must do when they play chess! While Singapore Math will thus stretch the students' minds, Number Theory will challenge them with unsolved mysteries, while creative contests and continental math league problems will make them face a wide range of topics associated with ACT and SAT exams.

And be assured, we are constantly upgrading our math curriculum resources with the most advanced publications that are offered on the market.
