March 27 Quads Report

Last Saturday we welcomed back players to our Super Saturday Quads on March 27! Thank you to everybody who joined us. A special thank you to our new players: Aviv, Pedro Ernesto, and Eric! Let us look at the highlights:

In Over 1000 Section 1, Vedanta finished in first place. Impressively, despite this being the top section, he won all his games! Critical to his success were attacks on the opposite-side castled king, which he actually employed in every game. Super work!

In Over 1000 Section 2, coming into the last game, Albert had two points and David had one. In the decisive match between them, David used an amazing, discovered attack against Albert’s queen to win the piece, thus securing the game. So, the two players tied for first, with Eric close behind on 1.5. Great job to all!

In Over 1000 Section 3, Murugan came out on top. He played all of his games superbly, especially in the middlegame, where he was able to take the initiative and either win material or start strong attacks. So, well played Murugan!

In Over 1000 Section 4, Matthew was the victor with a perfect 3/3. It was another tournament win for him. This time the key was probably his second-game win over second-place Ari S. in which he demonstrated sharp opening play to gain a clear advantage. Nice job!

In Under 1000 Section 1, the tournament ended with a tie between Everest and Alvin. Both played really well and continued their excellent form. After all, Alvin won a different section last week, and Everest recently went on a huge streak of tournament victories. Congratulations to both players for consistently great play in these events!

In Under 1000 Section 2, we had another crazy tournament. Nobody managed to avoid defeat in all games, but the winners ended up being Pranav and Leon with 2/3 points. Congratulations! In fact, Pranav defeated Leon in the very first game, but Leon did not let this deter him, thus sharing the crown. Also deserving mention is Pranav’s insane victory over Kirill, our game of the week because of all of its dramatic twists and turns. In Under 1000 Section 3, the tournament was Dhruva’s. He had 3 wins out of 3 and won all of his games via checkmate in under 25 moves! One example of this is that in the second game, he was black in the Ruy Lopez opening, but after setting a very clever trap for his opponent, checkmated in just five moves! Amazing job Dhruva!

In Under 1000 Section 4, the victor was Yuxin with a perfect score. In his games, Yuxin always found a way to attack the opponent’s king, with devastating effects: he would either checkmate or win significant material. It was an impressive performance, so well done Yuxin!

In Under 1000 Section 5, the tournament was extremely exciting, but nobody could stop George from winning first place. In his games he showed great positional understanding combined with many interesting tactics. Congratulations to George!

In Under 1000 Section 6, one of our consistent participants, Kenton, took first place and won all three games. He showed great improvement and versatility to play all types of different positions, and even finished two points ahead of everybody else in the end. Great job Kenton!

In Under 1000 Section 7, there was another new winner. This time Aviv, playing with us for the very first time, clinched victory with a perfect 3/3! What a way to begin his Super Saturday career, and he seemed to always be in control during his games. Excellently done Aviv!
