April 3rd Report

Thank you to everybody who joined us for the first April Quads of the year. A special thank you to our five new players: Jay, Jakob M, Joshil, Daniel L, and Jaeden! Let us look at the highlights:

In Over 1000 Section 1, the tournament was controlled by Amitai throughout. He was the winner with 2.5 points, .5 points ahead of second place Murugan. Indeed, he only needed a draw in his last game, and he got it. His first two games had been won through overly complicated tactical combinations requiring a lot of calculation. Congratulations Amitai!

In Over 1000 Section 2, Hanrui played very well, winning all his games. One of the main reasons for his success was a never-say-die attitude: even when in a slightly worse position, he kept fighting and repeatedly found winning tactics. Good work Hanrui!

In Under 1000 Section 1, the tournament was extremely exciting. A loss in the last game for Daniel, and a loss in the second game for Saanvi, did not deter them from tying for first with 2 points each. Hyland finished right behind them with 1.5 points, and no player avoided defeat. Congratulations to both Daniel and Saanvi!

In Under 1000 Section 2, Jeremy stormed to first place with a perfect 3 points. Many of his games were wildly entertaining clashes with lots of twists and turns. One example is his game against Chunyu, our game of the week due to the stylish time-scramble endgame checkmate that finished it. Check out the game here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/11210054493?username=undefined. Good work Jeremy!

In Under 1000 Section 3, nothing could separate Grayson and George, who split first place with 2.5 points each. Both players won their first two games, making the last game a straight showdown for the first-place crown. The game was even and ended in a tie, making the tournament a tie as well. Congratulations to both players!

In Under 1000 Section 4, one of our new players, Jakob, was the victor with 3/3. It was an assured performance to begin his Super Saturday career. He demonstrated great tactical understanding by using pins or forks to take advantage of any mistakes he spotted. Great work Jakob!

In Under 1000 Section 5, the tournament was won by Mehul with a perfect score. He played excellent attacking chess in all his games. To give an example, in his game against second-place Vincent, he carried out a rapid winning attack on the uncastled king. Amazing job!

In Under 1000 Section 6, Joshil, playing in the Quads for the very first time, won his section! Not only that, but he also won all three of his games. Each time, Joshil gained an advantage after brilliantly playing his openings, the Italian and Caro-Kann. What a great start, and congratulations Joshil!
