May 8Th, 2021 Quads Report

Last Saturday we welcomed back players to our Super Saturday Quads on May 8th! As always, thank you to all participants for joining us! Let us look at the highlights:

In Over 1000 Section 1, we had six top players competing, rather than the usual four. The tournament was very tight, as shown by everybody drawing in round 2. In the end there was a tie for first between Ashwin and Matthew, who both finished ahead of the rest with 2.5 points. Additionally, Ashwin recorded a genuinely nice win against Audrey, featuring an unlikely winning combination. You can see the game here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/14244783759. Anyway, nicely done to both winners!

In Over 1000 Section 2, Zachary was the undisputed winner with 2.5 points. After winning his first two games thanks to some superb endgame skills, a draw with David in the last game was enough to take first place. Amazing job!

In Under 1000 Section 1, Mark returned to impressively win the tournament for the second week in a row. Not only that, but he achieved a perfect score. Mark has become a regular winner of this section, with an incredible four wins in the past two months - great work Mark!

In Under 1000 Section 2, Alvin grabbed first place with 2.5 points. In each of his games, when there was a situation with a lot of tactical complications, he saw many moves ahead to gain the advantage. Because of this, he was able to triumph. Well played!

In Under 1000 Section 3, Dhruva was quite simply unstoppable with a full 3 points! In his games, whenever his opponent made even a slight mistake, he skillfully capitalized on it, picking up free pieces very sharply. And he showed an ability to play with both colors: he was black twice. Good work Dhruva!

In Under 1000 Section 4, Jakob triumphed with a perfect score. It was a great performance from him because he seemed to constantly be in control during his games. He got excellent positions out of the opening, so he was able to set himself up for forks and pins later. Very well-done Jakob!

In Under 1000 Section 5, the tournament was tight until the very end, when Mehul snuck ahead into first with 2.5 points, with Kenton (2 points) and Andrew (1.5 points) close behind. Thank you to these players for consistent participation, and congrats Mehul for a tremendous performance!

In Under 1000 Section 6, there was a rare three-way tie for first: Daniel, Yujeong, and Justin all finished with 2/3. The section was full of attacking play and crazy games, and nobody was able to avoid at least one defeat. Congratulations to all three players!

In Under 1000 Section 7, remarkably enough, the same thing happened as in the last section: there was another three-way tie for first between Ashton, Veer, and Peter! Similarly, nobody ended up unbeaten, and the games were truly unpredictable. Excellent job to all three players!
