June 12Th, 2021 Quads Report

Last week we welcomed back players to our Super Saturday Quads on June 12th! A big thank you to everybody who came to play! And a special thank you to our seven new players: Ricnesh, Taran, Eesha, Shawn, Sawarthi, Derek, and Anvay! Let us look at the highlights:

In Over 1000 Section 1, it was a great start from Ricnesh, who won the highest section despite this being his first time playing with us. Not only that, but he finished with a perfect score. We will hope that this is the beginning of a great career. Nicely done Ricnesh!

In Over 1000 Section 2, Ekeoma won with a perfect 3/3 points. Each of his games was very crazy, unbalanced, and exciting, but his eye for tactics allowed him to see wins in the end. One example of a crazy game that he played was his match against Jacob, our game of the week. You can see it here: https://www.chess.com/game/live/17261518151. Amazing job Ekeoma!

In Over 1000 Section 3, Matthew came out on top with 3 points. This was especially impressive as he had to play his first two games as black, but this did not stop him. In his games, he gained the advantage thanks to excellent middlegame play. Great work Matthew!

In Under 1000 Section 1, Andrew grabbed the victory with a solid 2.5/3, just .5 points ahead of second-placed Murugan. All his three games went into complex endgames, but Andrew maneuvered through it all to gain a great result. Congrats!

In Under 1000 Section 2, the victor was Shawn on his Super Saturday debut! He finished with 2.5 points, just ahead of second-placed Ayush, who had 2 points. In his games, he demonstrated great skills with knight forks, in addition to pushing his pawns very nicely. Again, we will hope that this is the beginning of a great career with us. Well done, Shawn!

In Under 1000 Section 3, the tournament was extremely dramatic, as no player was able to avoid defeat. In the end, it was deservedly a tie between Vihaan and Aarnav, with them both finishing on 2 points after excellent overall play in their games. Congratulations to both winners!

In Under 1000 Section 4, Charles clinched first place with a flawless 3/3 performance. In his games, he played exciting, attacking, and aggressive chess. Because of this, all three times, he delivered checkmate quickly. Great job Charles!

In Under 1000 Section 5, the winner was Derek with a perfect 3 points. He dominated in his games and showed a sharp eye for spotting the mistakes of his opponents. Whenever they made an error, he knew exactly how to capitalize on it to gain an advantage. Congratulations to Derek!

In Under 1000 Section 6, Ashton was the victor with 3/3. The decisive game ended up being a second-round victory over second place Anvay, in which Ashton used a discovered attack to win extra material and break through the opponent’s defenses. Nice job Ashton!

In Under 1000 Section 7, Sean took first place with a fantastic 3/3 points. And it looked like none of this was going to happen in the first round, when he was down -8 in material and in a lost position. However, Sean fought back showing great persistence, and went on to win the tournament. Well done!
