Booster Section Report

In the booster section, 14 rookie tournament players sparred against each other in 4 fast-paced rounds. Despite the G25 + 3 time control, the players, consisting of classmates, siblings, and friends, wasted no time in finding classic backrank, queen and helper, and windmill checkmates. Overall, the games were unpredictable, but exciting for spectators and players alike. Congratulations to Ray, Matthew, Aarav, Divyasri, and Rishabh for earning 3+ points in the section, and thereby receiving the right to play in the higher section in the next tournament on July 11th. Special congratulations to Ray for winning all 4 of his games and 1st place in the section!

As for the best game in the section, I think I'll give it to Ray and Divyasri in round 2. I will note that Sam found a very cool mating net in his round 3 game against Ryan. The text of both games are below:

Steppingstone 5 Report

This week during the progressive tournament series Phillip Hoang won with a flawless 4/4. In his second game, Phillip won a nice miniature out of the Queen's Pawn Opening. Another very fighting game was Luke vs Ishvani. With opposite side castling, it led to a king hunt where Luke ended up on top. Another interesting game: Leon vs Siddharth, in a very aggressive Vienna. Both sides played aggressively, and the game ended in a beautiful checkmate for Leon.

Phillip Hoang and Amane Kumamoto, both made their second norm, and now have to pass the test to get 5th category title. Leon Shevelnko made his first norm. Overall, everyone

played well with great fighting spirit.

Steppingstone 4 Report

Six students competed in this event. The fight this time was much more serious than before, and one of the games in 1st round finished with both players having seconds left on their clock. Jacob Feit won the tournament with perfect 3 out of 3 points. Jacob achieved 1st norm

for Category 4 title. Please see below his game against Josh
