Booster Section Report


In the Booster section on Sunday 10/3, we had a field of 17 players. Unfortunately, with an odd number of players (due to a last minute dropout), one player had a "bye" every round. To avoid this inconvenience, we ask once again that when signing up your child for any ICA tournament, be sure they will certainly make it and be on time. Meanwhile, here's a nice highlight from the tournament: During the final round of the tournament we had a great mate in one found by Shreyan Saha (white) against Pavel Kalashnikov (black)- Qh6# during the middlegame. Great find Shreyan!

And in the winner's circle: Congratulations to Hasini Karthik, Pavel Kalashnikov, Yana Chauhan, and especially Shreyan Saha for getting first place with a perfect score of 4/4!! All four of them are eligible to participate in Steppingstone 5 next tournament. We hope to see all of our participants return next time.

Steppingstone 5 Report

There were 11th participants in Steppnigston 5 section (same story as with booster: odd number due to fact that people registered and did not show up, and did not notify us, which would give us a chance to find a player to make it even)

Now, reviewing the games: Kids took their time and faught, but still unfortunately with many blunders. One of the games caught my attention: Liam (against Christopher H) found nice way to trap opponent’s rook and win it (unfortunately towards the end he blundered and lost the game):

35. Bf6 Rxh5 36. g6 Rh6 37.Kg7 and rook is trapped.
Congratulations to Christopher Corcoran and Jaydon Stinson on scoring 3 points and making 1st category 5th norm. Special congratulations to Maxim Lokhov for scoring perfect 4 points and making 2nd norm for category 5th title. Now he need to pass the test, and then he will be awarded this title. Maxim can play in Steppingstone 4 section next time

Steppingstone 4 Report

With only four particapants once again we had to limit number of rounds to three. Congratulations to Joshua Sagalchik who won the tournament with a perfect 3 points and achieved 1st norm towards category 4 title!
