For today's tournament, we had 37 participants split into 9 sections. We had lots of competitive matches, and lots of players were excited to share their thoughts on their favorite wins!

The first winner of the day was John Ketcham, who won all 3 of his games in a swift and tactical manner in Section 8! John said that after warming up from his first game, he was able to progress his gameplay. Throughout this John has had a very strong mindset and only focused on finishing the tournament, without allowing anything else to distract him.

In Section 9, Alexander Durmus was able to dominate his quad with no losses and beat everyone else. In his third game, Alexander found a positional tactic in his third game, and with that he was able to quickly checkmate his opponent.

For Section 7, our winner was Ahrin Vakharia! Throughout her three games, Ahrin played passively, and when their opponent was least expecting it, Ahrin started going on the offensive. Ahrin caught all her opponents off guard and was able to win this quad.

Our winner for Section 6 was Abhiram Vasanthavada! When asked about his games, Abhiram responded that throughout his games, there were so many tactics, and he was able to find them to beat his opponent. He also claimed that the end game was very tricky, and he had to spend time figuring out how to break through and finish the game perfectly.

In Section 5, Kate Stripunsky dominated with a solid 2.5/3. In her final game, she managed to find a strong tactic that led her to a rook vs knight endgame. Kate played the endgame in an excelling manner and proceeded to checkmate her opponent in the next 20 moves.

Our Section 4 winners were Matthew Park and Avyay Manoj! After the second game, both players had 1.5/2, and had to settle who was the winner by playing against each other in the final game. There were so many pieces on the board, but while Avyay was attacking, Matthew managed to hold his end, resulting in a draw for the final game.

Abhay Raina ran Section 3 in a dominating manner. By the third round, Abhay had 1.5/2, while Gillian Gao had 2/2. Realizing this, Abhay was determined to win his final round, and ended up crushing his opponent in the endgame.

In Section 2, our winner was Isaac Pierce with a solid 3/3! His opponent wasn’t present for the second round, so everyone in the section had a one-point bye. Regardless, Isaac crushed his opponents in the endgame and the very beginning of the middle game! Isaac's third game was so positional, that right when both players had just gotten into the middle game, Isaac found a back-rank mate, and his opponent admittedly resigned.

And finally, our winner for Section 1: Albert Abzalimov! Albert drew his second round, and both him and his opponent had 1.5/2 running into the final game. His second round opponent ended up losing in the third round, to a careless mistake, and Albert didn’t let that mistake slide. Albert did all he could to get more points and ended up winning his final game with great positional play.
