Road to the grand prize! Spring Chess Camp Day 2

The fun continued today with more rounds of the not-as-bad-as-it-sounds "Circle of Doom" in the park. The kids always enjoy starting the day off with a bit of yelling and running around, and today was no exception. Today's winners of this dodge ball-like game were Lucas Wang, Ryan Ying, and Kaitlyn Muselli. Their wins netted them points towards prizes this week.

From there it was on to chess class where the topics studied depended on the skill level of the player. Lessons included rules of the game all the way up to advanced tactics and theory. Everyone was challenged in different ways. As they say, chess takes a few hours to learn, but a lifetime to master. Fortunately for the player's at chess camp, they're getting an early start at it.

Lunchtime featured a "chant contest". Yesterday players were encouraged to come up with a chant. The counselors then helped them chant it for everyone to hear. The counselors are voting overnight on the best chant, and the winner tomorrow will receive a point towards prizes. (My personal favorite: "Chess is the best!" But I'm hearing rumors the SpongeBob SquarePants chant might have an early lead.)

The tournament in the afternoon was split into three section. Section 1 is playing a week-long event -- we'll have more on them later in the week. Section 2 was won by Noah Lieberman with a 3-0 win. Section 3 only had two games, with both Mayaan Aswani and Michael Sweeney going 2-0. Well done, everyone!

In the afternoon we said goodbye to Raphael Solomonov, as this was his last day of camp for the week. Raphael parted with a chess medal for his enthusiastic attitude at chess camp.
