David Milstein at the 9th Annual Continental Class Championship

Congratulations to David Milstein for winning the Class C Section at the 9th Annual Continental Class Championship! Here is his article on the tournament, entirely in his words!

I had a great time at the 9th Annual Continental Class Championship in Reston, Virginia. I particularly enjoyed getting to play some tough opponents, how well run the tournament was and getting to try some of the great food in the area.

I played in the class C section, rated 1300-1600 against opponents who were a challenge to beat. I found it tough after struggling to get a draw in round 1: I messed up the opening, to get back in a winning mindset and start to, for lack of a better word, win.

One particularly challenging game was Round 5, the final round. I was the only person with 3.5 points playing white against the only person with 4 points in a must-win situation. After a long, exhausting game, I managed to get a winning king and pawn endgame, winning me the tournament.

The tournament was a good one. All the rounds started on time, nothing went wrong, and they had my updated rating published by the next day. I would definitely recommend coming to this tournament.

The Reston area has a lot of great food. There is a Thai restaurant and a kabob place within walking distance of the tournament. If you like to eat a wide variety of foods, this is a great place for it!

I was very glad to be able to come to the 9th Annual Continental Class Championship and will be back next year if possible!
