Teaneck Summer Camp Week 3 Report: Why You Should Not Throw Chicken At People

An important life lesson which I am sure most of us have never considered is why it is important never to throw chicken at people. While said behavior certainly sounds wrong did any of us ever really delve into the specific reasons behind this phenomenon?

Well, we did.

After one of our campers Yujeong tried to throw a poultry nugget at somebody.

It was eye opening to say the least.

Aside from that the week was fairly usual given that Tuesday was Independence Day and most parents kept the kids at home for the weekend so only a die-hard few attended (and watched our traditional Bear vs. Human in hot-dog eating contest YouTube video).

The tournament was delayed by a couple of days because of it but in the end some surprising results occurred.

Yujeong, who usually dominates the classical tournament was toppled by Michael Lokhov, and his brother Max, who faced off for first in a tie-breaker that the older sibling Mike ultimately won. In section two Eli Krimsky managed to overcome Ben Tamir, and his sister Geula to claim first in the lower rated section, while the unrated section three saw Bowen An win the event in just two rounds as he overcome the two closest competitors in the round robin.

The best students for the week were Yujeong for Ivette’s group, Nuha for Yaakov’s group, and Andrew for Juno’s group. Will Kim won for problem solving, while Yujeong claimed best honors for the simul event winning his game against Juno.

In the sports groups of which there were only two, siblings Michael and Max won the older, and younger sections respectively, while Yujeong unsurprisingly once again claimed top dodgeball honors.

Claire helped herself to both the Art, and Music prize, while Yujeong took the 4th of July “Name the States” Contest (writing down the names of 45 out of 50 states in five minutes!).

On Friday, Team “Bad” (Bowen and Guy) won the blitz/bughouse/FisherRandom w/Kramnik’s rules about no castling (lol!) team tournament.

Stay tuned for a presidential election in one of our subsequent camp weeks!
