ICA Fall 2008 Family Competition

Cheung, Shao, Shvartsman Families Rule 2008 ICA Fall Tournament Family Average!

 

The ICA tally for the best-combined totals for family members is in, and the magic number this time around was 6.5.  Each of the top three finishing families were able to muster enough points to reach that plateau, and pull away from the rest of the field.  With 26 families participating, these top three finishers will each receive a nifty reward of one sort or another for each family member.

 

On tie-breaks it was the Cheung family, comprised of Liyan, and Shia, who took first place, with Liyan winning his section, and Shia grabbing 2.5 in her section and finishing in 15^th place.  Both will have the opportunity to compete in the next ICA Tournament free of charge, and can also compete in the next two Monday Night Scholastic tournaments with the entrance fee covered. 

 

The Shao family finished in second on tie-breaks, where Clement Shao finished with 3.5 in second place behind Liyan in their section, while Christopher Shao finished with 3 points, in 12^th place ahead of Shia in their section.   Christopher, and Clement can participate free of charge in the next ICA Tournament scheduled for December, and can also compete for free in the next ICA Monday Night scholastic tournament.

 

In third place, it was the Shvartsman family, which was comprised of three players.  Charles won his section with a perfect score, while Gabrielle finished 16^th in section four with a score of 2.5, and Andrew was able to get two points, and finished 23^rd in the very difficult fifth/open section.  Each family member will receive a free chess book. 

 

This concludes the full review of the 2008 Fall Tournament and we would love to see everybody and especially their grandparents at our next event.  Many times it is the children who are involved in these tournaments, with parents sitting, watching, and in some cases dying of boredom since they can’t stand behind their kid and cheer.  Therefore it would be really exciting to see parents take the reigns and enter to play more themselves.  If there are enough willing participants perhaps the ICA can organize a casual players tournament for parents, and adults, so they have something better to do while waiting for their children to finish?
