2012 ICA Summer Chess Camp Fair Lawn Week Two Report (7/2 – 7/6)

2012 ICA Summer Chess Camp Fair Lawn Week Two Report (7/2 – 7/6):

With the Holiday of Independence, the second week of day camp was not very tense, you can say it was reasonable:  we had a total of 13 students, and some of them missed our lesson on 4th of July. But for those guys that have come on that day to the camp, there were two Blitz’ tournaments. In rated Section Gregory and Yisràel Mîshe shared the Victory. In Unràted section triumphal Victory was achieved by Eric Z. who won all of his games!

The main tournaments as well were held in two sections (section 2 and section 3). In section 2, winners of July 4th blitz (Yisrael Moshe  & Gregory), and Eric T tied for 1st place. In Section 3: Jesse tied with Michael Y for 1st place, Aaron won 3rd.

Yisrael Moshe won best student in Tanya’s group, Eric Z. became best in Genry’s  group, and Jesse won in Ilya’s group.

Not stopping there, Yesrael Moshe excelled in the Problem Solving Competition, taking first place in the Rated Section. In the Unrated , victory went to Jesse, who had also earned many prizes this week.

At this time, no one managed to survive in a Simul Competition - the coaches were strict, and none of the students was able to score even a half point! The longest games held: in Rated Section - 40 moves – Gregory against Ilya, in the Unrated - 25 moves – Aaron against Ilya.

In the category ‘Home Work’, clear victory went to Alex.

Yisrael Moshe and Gregory excelled not only in chess competitions, but also dividing the first prize in Dodge Ball. In Soccer, Darren and Jesse were the Best!

The winners of the Sports Groups are:

Age Group 2000-2002 - Jesse

Age Group 2003-2004 - Aaron

Age Group 2005-2006 – Zoe

In Relay Race competition Coach Genry team: Zoe, Eric T., Jenny, Ronald, Darren and Alex – won!

On Friday we celebrated Ronald’s Birthday, who for many years on this day treats his comrades in the camp to a banquet!  I must say that this day was fairly glorious for Ronald: in addition to his team victory in a hard-fought struggle Relay Race, he also received a prize of Best Effort - for the fact that, despite the difference in the rankings, has managed to provide stiff resistance to his competitors in the tournament, and Chess Group (in Best Student Competition). Ronald was also captain of the team (Eric T, Eric Z, Daniel)  that won in Friday\`s Team Championship. And the day before - on Thursday - Ronald was named the best in the category of Healthy Lunch. If we add all this to this gift  in the category Birthday Boy, you can admit that this week Ronald came out with very respectable ‘haul’ of prizes.

Among those who remained on the Full Day, two additional prizes were distributed: Art Contest and Music Award. The first went to Aaron, and the second to Jenny.

As in Week 1, not all rewards have found their owners. At this time, due to the lack of worthy nominees were left unclaimed Best Chess Notation and Swag Walker Awards. If Best Chess Notation Award remains ‘open for claim’ this week, the Swag Walker nomination ‘takes a break’ for next three weeks, since starting from Week 3 Day Camp moved to another building (4-17 Saddle River Road), located very close to the park. So that the said award at this time, loses its relevance.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about another - unplanned - nomination. All students who came to camp on a Holiday (July 4), we handed chess gifts: for the ‘love of the game’ and a willingness to enjoy it anytime and anywhere…
