2012 ICA Summer Chess Camp Week Five Fair Lawn Report

2012 ICA Summer Chess Camp Week Five Fair Lawn Report

At the fifth week our Summer Day Camp measured a half-distance. Much has been done, but there is still a lot of interesting, fun, useful and informative.

This week main Tournament  was in three sections: Section 2 (open), Section 3 (U800) and Section 4 (unrated). Curiously, but in all sections winners show one hundred percent results. Daniel Khaitov won Section two (like last week), but if a week ago he lost one game, now, achieving the great shape, he brilliantly gained 4 points out of 4 possible. David Webster was second, Michael Aksen- third.

Aaron won Section 3 also with 4 points out of 4! Vidur, who won all of his games as well, finished in second place since he only played 3 games. In Section 4, Ethan did not violate the new tradition and won all of his games as well, and took 1st place. Alan (Jian) took 2nd place, with just a half-point behind Ethan, Conan was 3rd.

Best in Chess Groups:

Tanya’s group – Anthony

Max’s group – Yisrael Moshe

Richard’s Group – Ethan

Eve’s Group – Alan (Jian)

Ilya’s Group – Gabriel

Genry’s Group - Jeremy

This week the campers treated the Problem Solving Competition in much more responsible way than the previous week. Also in Week 5 to the camp came new powerful solvers. As a result of hard fighting Daniel K won the Open Section, Aaron won U1000, and Dylan won Unrated.

With the new system of counting points scored in “Survival in a Simul”, the Competition became much more dynamic and sharper. A lot of campers tried their hand at a contest with the coaches and the best among them were: in the Rated Section-Vaed, who at the last moment snatched victory from Anthony; in the Unrated - Ethan, who already on Monday was able to raise the bar on the peak that proved unattainable.

The most persistent and consistent in carrying out Home Work was Michael A. Humbly performed this week, Matthew who limited himself to one prize - Best Chess Notation. Let us remember that the winner just turned 6 (!) years old, but he records his games as if he is printing: clear and concise

Team Championship won the team with the telling title The Fried Liver (Vaed (captain), Yisrael Moshe, Michael Y., Isaac). Unfortunately, the games of the tournament have not been preserved, but judging by the name of the winning team, we can assume that its members have perfectly mastered the Fried Liver Attack in Two Knight Defense!

Team of Chelsea: Thomas (captain), Dylan, Conan, Alan (Jian), Jeremy won another team competition - Relay Race.  It must be noted: Team’s coach - Ilya, - put his soul into the success of his charges.

The Best Athletes of the week in Age Groups:

2000 and older – Vaed

2001 – Isaac

2002-2003 – Dylan

2003 – Ethan

2004 – Michael Y.

2005-2006 – Andrew

Dodge Ball Competition won David W. Best in Soccer: Thomas (in older group), Conan (Juniors)

In the category Healthy Lunch won Gabriel, in Best Effort - Daniel H.

The students who stayed for full day camp

participated in the competition for the two additional awards: Jeremy won Art Contest, IsaacMusic. By the way, at the closing ceremony to the accompaniment of Isaac, and Yisrael Moshe, we performed a new song dedicated to our camp (to the tune of the famous song by Deep Purple: Smoke on the Water).

Finally, a few words about Tanya\'s Group in Master Camp, consisting of those students who were involved in chess till 5 pm. This week, David W. failed to win in both categories: he was "only” Best Student. In Blitz Tournament Michael A gained first by winning his last two games! For Anthony this week was not as successful as previous ones, but at the end he delighted the coach, by being able to perfect the final enactment a training position.

On Week 6 we are moving back to our Main Building in Fair Lawn at 9-10 Saddle River Road. Therefore we are going to reinstate the “Swag Walker” nomination. Applicants for this award can start training during the Weekend!
