Four Families Tie For First In ICA Family Competition!
Katz, Lim, Patel, Lee Families Score Six Points!
Maybe it was the first time it happened and maybe not but four families tied for first in the ICA Dr Ostfeld Memorial Early Winter competition. On tie-breaks it was the Katz family of Alex, Nicholas, and Joshua who finished slightly above because of the future grandmaster Alex Katz, and his dominant performance (with wins over both IM Zlotnikov, and GM Kudrin) in the toughest of all open section. Younger brother Joshua added two points in his section five effort for the overall score, while Nicholas managed only one point which did not count for the overall score but benefited his future.
Tied for joint first through fourth were Michael, and Mathew Lim who each scored three points in the open section, Jahnavi, and Dhruv Patel who scored three-and-a-half, and two-and-a-half respectively in the second section. And Timothy, and Jonathan Lee who each scored three points in section three.
All winners receive free entry into the next ICA Dr. Ostfeld Memorial Winter tournament (February 10th ) while the Katz brothers also have the option of adding a free Super Saturday tournament because of their tie-break superiority.
19 families competed in the family section.
Congratulations to the winners.
