This year\'s Week 1 of the Summer Camp unexpectedly overlapped the last week of school. Therefore, it is not surprising that the average age of our students this week was a little more than 7 years old: the youngest camper was 5 and the oldest had just turned 10. But, despite the low average age, the students performed as serious chess players, and, with few exceptions, managed to withstand the training and playing load while maintaining the necessary concentration.

Chess Tournaments
The best students of the first two groups confirmed their strength in the chess tournaments:
Section 2 - Justin won 1st place with 5 out of 5 points, Maurice – 2nd, Jessica – 3rd
Section 3 – Alex won 1st place
Section 4 – Jonathan P won 1st place
Seven-year-old Justin did not stop there and gave a very serious challenge to our coaches in the “survival in a Simul” competition by beating one of the coaches and confidently winning the prize in the Rated Section. Nine-year-old Chris proved to be the best in the Unrated Section.
Justin was the best in the next chess category - Home Work, winning the Rated Section. In the Unrated Section, six-year old Jonathan D excelled.
Problem Solving Competition was the only chess challenge of the week that was not conquered by the ubiquitous Justin (it took him too much time to fight the trainers in a simul).
But Suran showed great ability in problem solving, patience and endurance. She mastered 22 chess puzzles and deservedly won the Rated Section in this category. The best solver without a rating was Alex , who solved 33 puzzles and established a record of the first week. Let\'s see how long this record will last!
The Prize for ‘Best Chess Notation’ went to Jessica, who clearly recorded all of her games, not missing a stroke and making it very convenient to analyze the games she played.
The final category in our chess program - Team Championship – is traditionally held on the last day of the week. The fight was hard, and the winner was determined only in the tiebreak. The winning team - Blitz Busters: Maurice, Dennis, Jonathan P. and Daniel.
I must say that (as it is usually the case) nobody was left without a prize: apart from chess we have a lot of other categories, in which you can express yourself and earn a well-deserved award
On the daily walks to the venue of the sports portion of the camp program, Jane and Jonathan P perfect walking quality, acting as examples of disciplined walking to other participants and for the entire week claimed the prize of Swag Walker.
Only in the last meters of the race did Daniel (who joined the camp in the middle of the week) manage to gain the lead and win that prize.
But Jane and Jonathan P won in Soccer Competition. Jane became 1st among girls, Jonathan P won among boys.
In our most popular sports event – DodgeBall – Suran won among girls, Chris among boys.

Team ‘Loosers’ (managed by coach Genry; Dennis, Alex, Chris, Rachel, Suran, Jane) won in traditional Friday Relay Race
It is easy to see that all of our students have claimed a prize, but the other four prizes are still waiting for their winners, therefore we continue…
Prize for Best Effort – for effort and seriousness in every activity during the week (be it at chess, outside sports, or any other aspect of camp life) went to Jonathan D. The Healthy Lunch reward gained two owners - Jessica and Justin Lee.
The remaining two nominations are for those who signed up for the full day option, since those students are participating in Art and Music Programs. Eight students stayed for the full day this week. After five days of classes, Rachel won the Music Award , and Maurice was the best in the Art Contest
Well, the first week was completely successfully. There are still two months of summer left. We help our students to gain necessary skills and experience through a combination of hard work and fun.
