Fair Lawn Week 4 Report

Week 4 of the Day Camp was the second held by us away from our main Fair Lawn location and apart from the GM and Master Camps but close to the park. Thus, the Master Prize List again missed the Swag Walker Prize, but the children received additional opportunities at the end of the "working day": win additional points for the Dodgeball Competition.

In Section 2 of the tournament there was nobody equal to Aryeh-Leib, who outplayed all of his rivals. Suran, the youngest participant of Section 3, was in the lead after three rounds, but at the finish got a bit tired and lost the last two games. Daniel H was able to take advantage of this hitch and win first place, breaking away from his closest rivals by half a point. Looking ahead, we note Daniel H. was successful in the other - especially chess – nominations. In Section 4 brothers Welfer (Jesse and Jack) excelled. However, a draw with Jack in the middle of the tournament race could have cost Jesse first place, since Daniel L to that point went undefeated. However, Jesse won all remaining games and excelled in this very large section (7 players).  Daniel L. took second, while Jack finished third.

Gabriel gained (on his second attempt) an unconditional victory in Tanya\`s Group, significantly outplaying all his competitors. Daniel H. continued his victorious march in chess, and won the title of Best Student in Ivette\`s group. Allan excelled in Genry’s group, and Jack in Jay’s. Remember last week, Jack was a bit unlucky? But now he has successfully bounced back, not only at the chessboard, but also in sports. But more on that later.

As early as Monday, Matthew and Daniel H. secured prizes in the Survival in a Simul Competition (Rated Section), winning their games against Jay! In the Unrated Section only Allan decided to challenge the coaches and in splendid isolation, won this prize.

After a break (in Week 3), Dennis re-joined the struggle for the Problem Solving Prize in the Rated Section. In the end, beating Aryeh-Leib, and winning the title “best solver of the week” and breaking away from his competitor by 6 points. In the Unrated Section Jesse won with the same margin.

Jane - the youngest student of the Day Camp - was the most attentive and accurate, winning the Best Chess Notation Prize.

Unfortunately few campers attempted to win the prize for "Home Work.” If a week ago without the prize there were participants in the Rated Section, this time a great opportunity to win another award went unnoticed by the unrated players. In the Rated Section Dennis distinguished himself by winning the next chess prize.

If you remember, the Week 3 Blitz Tournament was only held in Rated Section, so we decided to restore order and organized a similar event for the Unrated one. First place went to Jack, second - Allan, third - Daniel L.

Team JM JD (Jesse, Maurice, Jane, Daniel H.) won the Team Championship.

Now let us turn to the story of sport achievements. The Best Athletes in the various Age Groups were: 2007 - Jane, 2005-2006 - Deana, 2004 - Dennis, 2003 & older - Gabriel.

Nobody played soccer this week, and this prize remained unclaimed. But the fate of first place in the Dodgball Competition was decided at the last moment. Suran won in the Girls section, while Jack personally decided the result for first (Boys) in his favor knocking out the last player of the opposing team.

Jay broke the supremacy of Ivette, whose team excelled in the previous two weeks of the Relay Race Competition. His Miami Heat (Jesse, Deana, Jack, Daniel L., Jane) won a crucial round to claim victory in this contest.

Aishwarya (without much struggle) won the Best Lunch Consumer Prize (unfortunately not all of our students know how to eat lunch quickly and clean up after themselves). Dennis won the Healthy Lunch Award

Daniel N. who achieved remarkable progress in the difficult exploration of music and musical instruments, won the Music Award. Another Daniel (Hu) won the Art Contest Award . It’s not hard to see this week was very fruitful for Daniel!

Aaron won the Best Effort Prize. Judging by the results shown by Jack (prior owner of this prize) this is a good omen. Let\`s see how it will work for Aaron next week!

From time to time, if there is justification for it, we come up with new nominations for the Prize List. This week we created the Team Player Award: for the student who was most helpful, not only in team competitions, but also in assisting other students throughout the week, helping the coaches and in general being a positive hero in all respects. The first winner of this award was Gabriel. Hopefully, this award will be presented numerous times in the coming weeks.
