Fair Lawn Week 5 Report
In Week 5 of our camp, tournaments were held in three sections. The most powerful of them, Section 2 (with 10 members), used the Swiss system, and sections 3 and 4 used Round Robin systems. Aryeh-Leib won all of his game in Section 2 and won the tournament. Michael Y. won Section 3 (4 participants); and Daniel L. excelled in Section 4 (6 students) winning all five games! Matt, Jane and Alan shared 2-4 places.
Aryeh-Leib distinguished himself in the “Best Student” Competition as well, sharing the victory (in Tanya\'s Group) with Gabriel. Dennis was best in Max\'s Group, Alan in Genry\'s Group, Jack in Ilya\'s Group, and Matt in Arjun\'s .
Aryeh-Leib continued the winning streak and won the Rated section in the “Solving Problems” Competition. Gavin was the best in unrated section.
Daniel H became best (third time in a row!!!) in the Rated section of the “Survival in a Simul” Competition, while Matt won the unrated section.
Aryeh-Leib achieved his fourth (and final for this week) victory, by winning 1st place in the “Friday Blitz” tournament. Eric was 2nd, and Jessica and Daniel H shared 3rd place.
According to the already established "good" traditions, our students have lost one of the prizes in the “Home Work” Competition: this time participants of Rated Section did not bother to continue chess at home. But, in contrast to the previous week, the award has found its hero: Daniel L. in the Unrated Section.
The prize for “Best Chess Notation” – also traditionally – went to Jane.
The “Team Championship” was won by the team ‘The Whole Entire Song’: Dennis, Daniel H., Aaron, Gavin.
The original ‘Pretty Pink Cows’ (not to be confused with this season’s trendy ‘Pretty Pink Ponies’): Jessica, Dennis, Michael, Gavin, Daniel N., under the leadership of Max won another team match of the week – the “Relay Race”.
Returning to the ICA main building allowed us to finally revive the “Swag Walker Prize”, the owner of which became Aaron.
Once again Suran won in the girls category in the “Dodgeball” Competition, and Michael won among boys. Best in Soccer: Alan (boys), Rachel (girls).
Best in “Sports Groups”:
2003 and Older – Eric
2004 – Michael
2005-2006 – Michael
2007 – Daniel L.
Beyond his years, diligent Jonathan won the “Best Effort” Prize.
Jessica (in the opinion of the competent jury) brought the “Best Healthy Lunch” on Thursday. Daniel L. won the “Best Lunch Consumer” competition.
For the second time Gabriel won the “Team Player” prize.
As always, the students who stayed until 5 had a chance to fight for additional awards. As a result, Alan won the “Music Award”, and Rachel – “Art”
Well, we can say that in Week 5, Day Camp was very fruitful. We hope that in the next few weeks our students will support this momentum, and also that there will be no unclaimed prizes! Good luck and success in Week 6!
