2013 ICA Scholastic Chess Camp Teaneck Location Week 7

ICA Scholastic Chess Camp Teaneck Location Week 7 Report: GM Kudrin Joins The Gang!

One of the most memorable moments of week seven was seeing the return of GM Kudrin to our Teaneck location.  Not only did Sergey provide many of our younger players the opportunity to have their first real taste of grandmaster play during the Simul competition (Ilan Katz won the prize for lasting the most moves against Sergey) but also annotated and then recorded a video clip of himself discussing his one official tournament game against the legendary eighth world champion Mikhail Tal (an article with the annotated game and a youtube clip will be posted on our website shortly).

The winners of our weekly tournaments were Arinze in section four, Charli in section three, Ben in section two, and Lachlan (after a tense last day play-off against Ryan) in section one.

The study group winners were Lily in Slava’s group, Divyash in Mila’s group, Alex in Alex’s group, and Ryan in GM Kudrin’s group.

For problem solving Michelle and Ariel took home the best two prizes.

Ryan got revenge on Lachlan by winning the blitz tournament while Ben Pyatski meticulously took home the best notation prize.

The winners in Blitz/Bughouse were “Got Chess” (Captain was who else but Idan with Charli, Kento, and Rachel as teammates).

In the sports groups it was (from youngest to oldest) Ariel, Grant, Garrick, Lloyd, and Lachlan.

For dodgeball Idan was once again supreme (he has won dodgeball every week except week 6 where we stacked the deck against him and let his opponent choose the first three people).

Finally, Mattis was the winner for soccer.
