ICA Scholastic Chess Camp Teaneck Location Week 9 Report:
Week nine was officially the last one of the camp as according to our original schedule (things went so swimmingly we added a week ten but more on that in the follow-up article.).
The coaching staff was mostly tired to offer up much in the way of most regular activities but we were able to record a very inspirational “Rocky speech” clip that we are proud to present via this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynFNHJUsTgI.
The winners for the tournament sections were Aidan in section four (Aidan enjoys running around the dodgeball field like a crazy man) Jeremy in section three, Meier in section two, and after a last day scare from Sophie in which he snagged an unlikely endgame draw, Ryan Xu.
The best students in the study groups were Alex B, Talia, Aaron, Dennis, and Lily Del Pilar.
Ryan Xu once again dominated the blitz tournament.
Talia won the problem solving competition in the unrated section, while Dennis won in the rated section.
The Friday blitz-bughouse tournament was won by Ilan’s team (Ilan, Lily, Ethan, and Talia), while Ilan won the individual simul competition as well (though it was on tie-break against Ryan).
James Belov won for dodgeball, while Sophie was the winner in Basketball.
From youngest to oldest the sports group winners were: Raymond, Alex Belov, Alex C., and Ilan.
In relay races Sophie’s team of Alex B, Lily, Jonathan, Isak, and Elizabeth (who needs to teach her grandfather how to text message) came out on top.
