Thursday Night Tournaments And Lectures:
GM Joel Benjamin Kicks Off The ICA’s New Tournament Series On March 6th!

It is becoming more and more difficult for chess players in the Northern New Jersey Area to claim there aren’t enough local tournament options available to them.

Starting March 6th the International Chess Academy will be offering a Thursday evening tournament option to any enthusiastic chess players willing to play and win cold hard cash.

The entry fee is twenty-five dollars with a seventy-five dollar first place prize, and a fifty dollar second place prize (based on a minimum of ten entries).

The tournaments will have a three round Swiss format and a thirty minute time control without delay.

The first round will begin at 7:15 pm with registration opening one hour before.

To add benefit to benefit those who don’t win are also welcome to enjoy a free lecture every Thursday by a wide range of GM’s who will help us support this new effort.  The lectures will be free to any player participating but those who are only interested in the lecture can still attend for a fee of twenty five dollars.

The lectures will run forty-five minutes before the start of the tournament.

The first will be conducted by GM Joel Benjamin with the topic of discussion being “Unorthodox Openings: The Black Knights Tango (i.e. The Mexican Defense, or the “ Chebanenko Experiment”
