Ostfeld Memorial Winter Scholastic Results:
Chess vs. The Super Bowl
Despite stiff competition from the Super Bowl The Dr Ostfeld Winter memorial tournament successfully presented the standard competitive vehicle for many local school children. Competing in five sections of various strength, the kids showed the Seahawks weren’t the only ones holding up a trophy at the conclusion of Sunday night.
Section 1
Ethan Modi was the sole winner of section one being the only player to win all four of his games. Ilya Asulin took second place with three-and-a-half points with his only draw coming against third placing Jack Mclaughlin. Jack, Sachit Tumuluri, Wolfe Ginsberg, Jackson Field, and Neil Riener all scored three points each and tied for third place.
Twenty-four kids played in section one.
Section 2
Jonathan Pruchansky was the only player to win all four of his games and thereby section two. Six players tied for second thru sixth place winning three games each, those being Alan Kerdman, Jonathan Plavnik, Alex Goldfarb, Henry Huang, Henry Baquerizo, and Adar Turapov.
Twenty-seven players competed in section two.
Section 3
Isha Slavin was the best of the fifty participants in the under 800 section three winning all four of her games. Nikola Rodriguez, Malina Pavlova, and Mathew Ren all tied for second thru fourth place with three-and-a-half points each.
Section 4
Michael “Misha” Rozenvasser was the sole winner of section four scoring three-and-a-half points with his only draw coming against second place finisher Stanley Liu. Joining Stanley in second place with three points each were Edward Musheyev, Idan Glickman, Dennis Li, and Aayush Ajith.
Twenty-one players competed in section four.
Section 5
Finally, the very tiny section five (comprised of only 12 players) was won by three players who each scored three points. On tie-breaks it was Roman Brustein on top finishing with two draws alongside his two victories. Nastasia Klevak, and Michael Aksen also scored three points with Nastasia only losing to Roman Brustein, and Michael winning twice and drawing against Roman and seventh place finishing Avi Slavin.
As always we hope everyone had fun and will join us at our next Dr Ostfeld tournament in April.
