Ostfeld Memorial Open Section Winners:
Kudrin, Katz, and Grasser tie for first place!
Early before the start of the tournament just as GM Kudrin arrived to participate in the first round game we at the ICA had the opportunity to finally share a video Sergey helped record this summer. In it he discussed a very interesting game he played against the eighth world champion of chess Mikhail Tal (the video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxOHKHv8aVY) and perhaps that helped inspire Sergey to victory here.
Coincidentally it was his last round opponent, and fellow first place finisher Alex Katz who held the camera that filmed the video above.
George Grasser also joined the top two finishers with three-and-a-half points.
Each of the first place winners got two hundred and fifty dollars for their efforts.
Other winners included:
Ari Shusterman, Igor Yeliseyev, and Ethan Klein all scored three points and won thirty four dollars each for best results of players rated under 2200.
Roger Pedersen, Michael Semel, and Nicholas Katz (Alex’s brother) scored three points each and earned fifty-nine dollars each with best results for players rated under 2000 as well as over the age of 55.
Aaron Shlionsky got seventy-five dollars for his three points and best results of a player under the age of thirteen.
Levan Babukhadia won one hundred dollars for scoring two-and-a-half points and having the best result of a player rated under eighteen hundred.
