2014 Week 1 In Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn Week 1

The first week of Fair Lawn Day Camp passed in warm and friendly atmosphere.

That, however, did not prevent our students to lead uncompromising struggle for prizes at chessboard, and at sports fields. As a result, as it has happened many times before in our camp, no student was left without a prize.

Best Students:

Coach Tanya – Sam (who managed to maintain his leadership in intense competition with Suran and Malina)

Coach Ethan – Rachel

Coach Asher – Jonathan D

Chess Tournaments

Each of the first two sections of the tournament was held as double round robin with four participants. And if Section 1, despite the fierce competition, was still able to identify the individual winner - Malina (who vigorously finished with two wins in a row), then in Section 2 First place was shared between three players: Ben P, Jane and Jonathan P.  In Section 3,  Ilya won 1st place, second place went to the youngest student of Week 1 Michael, and Rachel and Ben G tied for third place.

Very popular this week was Problem Solving Competition.  Alex won the open section, Daniel won U500 section, Ben G. and Rachel shared the win in Unrated category.

The need to maintain notation in a “survival in a Simul”, unfortunately scared away some students from participation in this contest. Among those who were not afraid of this difficulty, the strongest (in rated category) were Suran and Jane; Michael and Rachel were best in Unrated.

The Prize for Best Chess Notation won Justin (the only novice in week 1). Good example for the more experienced colleagues!

Another chess prize traditionally played out in the nomination: Home Work. In rated section the fight for it was so stubborn, that only photo finish revealed the sole winner: Sam. But students from Unrated Section masse declined to participate in this contest.

In the most cheerful competition of the chess program - Team Championship, excelled team: Rhino Rooks (Alex, Sam, Jonathan P. and Ilya)

In Soccer Competition: Rachel became 1st among girls, Alex won among boys.

In our most popular sports event – DodgeBall – Malina won among girls, Sam among boys.

Best in sports by age:

2004 & Older – Sam and Alex

2005-2006 – Abi

2007and younger – Jonathan P

Team ‘Boss Bishops’ (managed by coach Asher: Michael, Sam, Malina, Alex, Rachel, Ilya) won in traditional Friday Relay Race

It is easy to see that all of our students have claimed a prize, but the other four prizes are still waiting for their winners, therefore we continue…

Prize for Best Effort – for effort and seriousness in every activity during the week (be it at chess, outside sports, or any other aspect of camp life) went to Daniel, who (comparing to last summer) became noticeably more serious about chess studies. The Healthy Lunch went to Jonathan P.

On the daily walks to the venue of the sports portion of the camp program, Suran has demonstrated not only patience and discipline, but also good physical training, as all week carried a heavy book (she was reading, sitting in the open air, while the other students played Soccer and Dodgeball) and claimed the prize of Swag Walker.

The remaining two nominations are for those who signed up for the full day option, since those students are participating in Art and Music Programs. Eight students stayed for the full day this week. After five days of classes, Malina won the Music Award , and Jonathan D was the best in the Art Contest

Well, the first week was completely successfully. There are still two months of summer left. We help our students to gain necessary skills and experience through a combination of hard work and fun.
