2014 Week 2 In Fair Lawn

Fair Lawn Week 2

Week 2 at our camp was strengthened by Sophie (who went through intense training of Master Camp in week 1). Certainly, for less experienced students, it was hard to compete with the pumped up chess muscles, but some students have managed to provide decent resistance. For example, Sophie was able to defeat her main rival, Jessica, but grieved a big loss from Suran and therefore shared first place in the tournament (section 1) with Jessica. Aaron won Section 2, while Eric got 1st place (with a perfect score) in section 3 and earned the right to play in the rated section for the next week.

Best Students:

Tanya’s group Sophie

Thomas’s group - Eric

Chess Tournaments

Problem solving competition: Aaron won ‘open’ section, Philip (U500) and Deanna unrated.

In Survival in Simul competition, four students: Eric, Jessica, Sophie and Daniel N. were able to win (!) against coach Tom K. Well, looks like Tom has to work on his chess skills over the weekend.

Winners for the Homework nomination: Sophie (Rated Section) and Gavin (Unrated).

Since 4th of July fell on Friday this year, some of the students went away on holiday vacation and missed not only the closing ceremony, but also both team competitions. Therefore, we substituted the regular Friday Team Tournament with Bughouse Tournament. Team ‘Pink Fluffy Unicorns’ (Sophie and Philip) won this joyful event.

Sophie also won prize for Best Chess Notation.  If only all the students were recording their games as neat and careful as Sophie, then the coaches (and students themselves) would have been able to learn more about their chess creativity!

Best in Sports Groups:

Age 2003-2004 – Alex and Gavin;

Age 2005 – Philip;

Age 2006-2007 – Jane

By a large margin, Jane won the Dodge Ball competition, and in Soccer - in the face of brutal competition – Philip won.

Daniel N won Swag Walker nomination; Jessica won Healthy Lunch competition. Daniel L won the Art award, and GavinMusic.

Unfortunately, this week there was not one worthy nominee for the Best Effort prize. Let\'s hope that it was an accident, and in the future we will not rebound from wanting to win this award.

Special prize of «July 4th» was received by all who celebrated this holiday in the Day Camp with us: Daniel L., Eric, Gavin, Ilya, Jane, Jessica, Philip and Sophie.
