Teaneck Week 3
We had 17 kids at the Teaneck location during the 3rd week. The coaches for the week were Melanie (Solomon’s sister), Zoya, Ivette and David. The circle activity continued growing in number of participants. The themes varied from “pick a color from a hat and link it with appropriate emotion (AKA as an emotional IQ)” to your most memorable chess game. Some shocking insights came from David, the coach, as he remembered how hard he tried to beat his Grandpa in chess and still lost even though his Grandpa was not quite himself that day. There were some other very interesting stories told by campers, for example, as Gabriele Grant remembered beating her tough opponent, Isac Dubrow, and coach Ivette remembered beating her coach for the first time when she was a child. We also offered a new activity: “Chess Word Wall”! This activity will also lead to a new contest during the next week: “Best chess poem”.
The weather was tolerable and the coaches were very creative in inventing new athletic activities! Everyone was engaged! You can see the results of all the competitions in the Master Prize list, for week 3.
