2014 Week 5 Teaneck

Trololo there’ll be no more Waiting; Week 5 Teaneck Focuses on Popular “Trololo” internet Meme!

As promised in the write-up to week four the challenge presented for week five was to come up with an English language version of words to the famous “Trolololo” internet meme song as seen here:

The history behind this song goes back to the time of the cold war where in Soviet authorities afraid of anything “American” censored the lyrics of this masterpiece (about a Cowboy returning home to his girl Mary in Kentucky) and thereby forced the authors to turn what was left into a song that Eduard Khil’ (the man who is now known as “Mr Trololo”) performed without words.

Though there were many students (Charli, Asher, Ethan, etc.) who promised to attempt and conquer the “Trololo” mountain only veteran camper Idan Glickman reached the top and won the competition.  Idan’s strategy was not to improvise but rather take the Russian lyrics and then using a thesaurus and a dictionary make up something everyone could sing along to on Friday.  Idan’s words are as follows:

Home, Coming Home

There’ll be no hesitation

Home, Coming Home

Where my true love is Waiting

I felt that I wanted the freedom to Play

Left you to roam

I now see it was wrong

For me to have strayed

And I’m coming Home

Howard our music teacher put together the melody and chords with the words and under threat from Slava that anyone who doesn’t sing won’t get prizes all the campers did their best to belt out the song together during the Friday award ceremony.

The results in the rest of the week’s competitions, along with pictures can be found at the links below the article
